At The Start

In 2009 the start and finish lines for all events were overhauled to provide participants with a better all round experience. The changes were very well received and will remain in place in 2010.

All participants in the Marathon, Half Marathon, Channel Nine 12km Run & 12km Walk will again be required to assemble on Esplanade Park.

****Participants will not be permitted to assemble on St Georges Terrace until marshaled to the start line by race officials****

A CLEAR RUN… the assembly area on Esplanade Park provides the following benefits to all participants:
- better policing of participants starting in their correct start group (I.e. fast runners with fast runners)
- better policing of participants with prams or pushing strollers to start at the rear of the field
- improved event services
- additional toilet facilities to assist growing crowds

IMPORTANT INFORMATION… please be aware that due to the inclusion of the full marathon, road closures in the City of Perth will be greater than in previous years. We strongly recommend taking advantage of the free train services, provided by Transperth, to travel to the start precinct. If you are driving or are dropping off participants please be sure to look at the Start Precinct map for recommended drop off points. This will be available in the Event Guide in August 2010.

Q: When should I get to the start?
A: It is recommended that you arrive at the race precinct at least one hour before the start of your event. This will ensure you can use any services you require (clothing transport etc.), you find your correct start category and you are not impeded by road closures.

Full details for getting to the event and services available in the start precinct will be released in August.

Q: Where do I leave my bags/clothing etc?
A: A free clothing service to transport clothing items from the start line in the city and the start at Perry Lakes to the finish line at City Beach will be operated on race day.

The drop off areas will be broken down by start groups. Please approach only the drop off area corresponding to your event, start group (colour coded) and race number. These will be clearly sign posted.

You will be asked to tear off the ‘clothing voucher’ on your race bib which carries your unique race number. This will be attached to a bag supplied at the drop off area. Bags will then be loaded in to corresponding vehicles and transported to City Beach Oval. At the other end the same signage will designate where each start category can collect their property.

No responsibility will be taken for valuables and participants are encouraged not to bring any on race day.

**Organisers are aware of issues some participants encountered in 2009 with the clothing service, and have reviewed all elements. We understand the importance of the transfer of clothing and assure participants this will be a smooth running service in 2010.
