City to Surf for Activ

LESS THAN A MONTH TO GO!

Sunday 30 August is looming and with now less than a month to go the excitement is building and there is a flurry of activity to ensure that this is the best event yet!

We hope the last two weeks of lovely weather (albeit very cold in the mornings!) has given you an energy boost and plenty of opportunity to get outside to get training!

In this newsletter we bring you some exciting announcements about FREE public transport, outline the overhaul of the event start and finish precincts, request some volunteering support and profile a celebrity runner!

Keep up the training and make the most of the sunshine while it's out!

FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS!

Free Public Transport

We are very pleased and excited to announce that with the support of Transperth, free travel on Transperth Buses, Trains and Ferries will be available to all participants on race day. Complimentary transport will be available to the start line before the event; from City Beach Oval to Perry Lakes and to Perth City Centre after the event; and onward travel home. There will be no more hunting for loose change or tucking coins into socks and shoes! Participants simply need to be wearing their event race bib to gain free travel on the last Sunday in August. START AND FINISH PRECINCTS

Start Precinct Finish Precinct

In 2009 the start and finish lines for all events have undergone a major overhaul. Changes have been made to improve the day for everyone from the casual walker to the serious competitor.

Participants will be required to assemble on Esplanade Park rather than St Georges Terrace.

The finish line for all events will be on West Coast Highway.

Check out the great maps showing the new layouts and orientate yourselves early.

START PRECINCT
The new assembly area will provide the following benefits to all participants:
- better policing of participants starting in their correct start group (I.e. fast runners with fast runners, walkers with walkers)
- better policing of participants with prams or pushing strollers to start at the rear of the field
- event services will be more accessible
- additional toilet facilities to assist growing crowds
- enhanced clothing service for ease of drop off
- prime spectator positions for the longer events passing through the start precinct area

FINISH PRECINCT
All events will finish on the hard steady surface of West Coast Highway, rather than the sometimes wet and slippery grass of City Beach Oval. With the change comes an impressive overhaul of the finish precinct. Changes have been made to accommodate growing participant and spectator numbers and will ensure the event can continue to grow in years to come.

A FESTIVAL ATMOSPHERE
The newly designed finish precinct will maintain the unique party atmosphere synonymous with the City to Surf, and will allow for additional services for all participants including:
- shower and change facilities, so runners can stay and enjoy the day for longer
- the new Skins Recovery Marquee for all marathon finishers
- free fruit giveaway thanks to Coles supermarkets
- merchandise sales available on the oval so participants can take something home
- excellent spectator access to the finish chute and finish line to watch friends and family cross the line
- live music acts on stage throughout the morning and afternoon
- corporate marquees for private entertaining

2009 RACE RESULTS - AVAILABLE MONDAY 31st

Perth Now Sunday Times

All participants will have a good idea on their time this year with a separate clock on the finish line for each event, however we're also pleased that in 2009 preliminary results will be available online on Monday 31 August. Results for all finishers will be available on www.perthnow.com The Sunday Times will also produce a commemorative lift-out available in-paper on Sunday 6 September 2009. The lift-out will publish all Marathon and Half Marathon finishers' times and top finishers across all other events, as well as all the details of the day.

NUDIE

Nudie

Juice sponsor Nudie will be at the finish precinct on City Beach oval offering FREE juice for the first 5,000 participants presenting their race bib. Check out the finish precinct maps for the exact location.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY - DIRECTION MARSHALLS REQUIRED

Direction Marshalls

Our volunteers are vital to the successful staging of the Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ.

Our focus for August is to recruit 120 Direction Marshals in the Nedlands, West Perth, Subiaco, Floreat and Wembley areas

Direction marshals are positioned at road closures (generally in pairs) to advise approaching motorists of the Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ, assist with directions and advise of alternate routes - we will provide maps and detours to hand out. Direction marshal volunteers need to be over 18 and a good sense of direction would be helpful.

For your opportunity to help out at the largest community sporting event in Western Australia please contact Deanne Dymock at volunteering@activ.asn.au or 08 9387 0555.
