RUNNER PROFILE - STUART CARLILE

Runner Profile - Stuart Carlile

Runner Profile - Stuart Carlile

Stuart Carlile is a fly in/ fly out worker who was last year heavily overweight carrying 124 kilos. Thanks to the goal of participating in this year's event he's now turned his own life around and is looking forward to his first Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ event on Sunday 30 August. Stuart says, "Last year I couldn't even walk one kilometre without a break, I was unfit, unhealthy and overweight. The wake up call was a friend of similar age - also in his early 40s - having a heart attack. It made me realize it was time to make some changes."

Once the decision was made, Stuart looked for more motivation to keep him on track "I needed a new goal to aim for and running the 12km event in the City to Surf was perfect."

With the support of his family and employer Assetivity, Stuart started pushing himself bit by bit, first taking long walks, then jogging, and over time lost 40 kilos.

Stuart has also taken his participation in the event as an opportunity to do some personal fundraising. "I've worked really hard on the weight loss as something I wanted to do for myself but I've got others to sponsor my efforts too, it helps me on a long training run, to know I'm doing something for others as well".

Stuart's personal fundraising efforts are for Activ - the beneficiary of the Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ. "Activ do great work in the community supporting people with disability. It's been great motivation on a long hard slog to know I'm doing that extra little bit. It will help on the day too - crossing the finish line will be fantastic".

To really challenge yourself and get the most out of your involvement in the Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ, why not get family and friends to sponsor you? You can sign up online at Get active for Activ and help make a difference for people with disability. Click here to get started.

We wish Stuart the best of luck on race day.
