 It’s
only the beginning…..
As we roll through summer, the sun
invites us to get off the lounge chair and enjoy the great outdoors.
Despite this temptation, the majority of Australians remain
physically inactive. Moderate regular exercise can provide proven
health benefits and the prospect of a life free from much illness
and incapacity.
No matter what your fitness level, age or
exercise goal, start training for the City to Surf 2010 sooner
rather than later – your body will thank you for it. Find out why...

The 4km is the race that truly anyone can
get involved in. Some take it as an opportunity to challenge
themselves with a sprint, others take a lazy stroll to the
beach, for some it's a door into the event, maybe one day taking on
the longer distances, and for others a way back after injury or
illness. Whatever your fitness level you can get involved in the 4km
Walk/Run.
In 2010 the 4km Walk/ Run is undergoing a
complete overhaul. The changes will better facilitate the
10,000+ crowd and will ensure the best possible family friendly
environement for all participants. The event start will be
relocated to the north side of Oceanic Drive, to McLean Park in
Floreat. The move will see improved event services such as: a
dedicated 4km clothing drop off station, improved information and
help desk facilities, more vendors so you can grab a
morning coffee, more toilets, and better access
to pre race activities such as warm-ups and guest appearances
from local celebrities and sporting heros.
AN ADDED
BONUS - All 4km participants will be on course when the
marathon leaders come flying down Oceanic Drive in their final 3kms.
The courses run side by side, and although a high fence physically
divides the two races on the viewing position
for participants will be exceptional. To see these supreme
athletes in full flight up close and personal will be an impressive
sight and a real inspiration for the young ones.
FREE transport including Transperth
buses, trains and shuttle services will be available to
all participants on race day, full details will be released later in
the year. Check out the new course on the link to the left. Every
participants receives a medallion and a bottle of Powerade when
they cross the finish line!

 The Rebel
Sport City to Surf for Activ proudly welcomes WESTPAC as an official
partner of the 2010 event. WESTPAC will be the Category Naming
Rights Sponsor of the Half Marathon and the 11km Wheelchair
categories. In 2010 these categories will be known as the WESTPAC
Half Marathon and the WESTPAC 11km Wheelchair.
Westpac is Australia’s first bank and
organisation, and the Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ is thrilled
that WESTPAC has decided to throw its weight behind Western
Australia’s most iconic sporting event. WESTPAC has played a
significant role in building the nation for almost 200 years, and
with the signing of this partnership in 2010, we look forward to
WESTPAC’s support in building the Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ
this year and into the future.
Mark Stafford, State
Manager WA said "Westpac is thrilled to become a partner of the
Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ. With the course starting
outside our WA head office, we felt it was time that we stopped
watching from the sidelines and donned our trainers to actively
support this great event. It provides us the opportunity to
support the local community in Perth and I look forward to
challenging staff and customers to join us in getting running fit
and financially fit between now and race day."

Sylvia
Broadbent after her 2009 effort. In 2010
Sylvia will be running for the MS Society.
|
This week we're profiling Sylvia Broadbent,
a 34 year old Senior Building Surveyor from Pinjarra. Sylvia
participated in her first City to Surf in 2009 taking on the 12km
Walk. She enjoyed the day enormously, specifically enjoying the
fact that anyone with any fitness level can participate. Sylvia
doesn't consider herself a very sporty type but is already
committed to taking part in 2010. This year she has an
even bigger incentive than just crossing the finish line. Sylvia has
made a commitment to take part of the Activ Charity
Challenge and will be fundraising as part of her participation.
Already one of our top fundraisers, Sylvia is running for the MS
Society.
"My sister has MS. Luckily for her and us she does
not have any permanent damage yet, but it's the unknown that is hard
to live with". Sylvia is currently overseas and taking walks with
her sister finding 'geocache' "it's a great incentive to walk"
Once she's back in Australia Sylvia plans to continue her walks and
is focused on crossing the finish line in August as a personal
achievement, but also with her fundraising goal
achieved.
To donate to Sylvia, or start your own fundraising
page check out the official Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ
fundraising site here.
