Rio Tinto has claimed the title of ‘Largest
Corporate Team’ for the past two years, with a total of 985 members
in 2010, and they return to defend their back to back titles in
2011.
Principal of Business Improvement, Tiri Sanderson, ran
the Marathon in 2010 and said the City to Surf for Activ was one of
the biggest events on the Rio Tinto calendar.
“It’s a
fantastic experience and it’s great when you have the chance to run
with workmates on the course. It is such an entertaining experience
to run beside people dressed in tutus, full site gear, army fatigues
and BHP singlets.
“My highlight last year was seeing the lead
marathon runners flying along and crossing paths with the rest of us
near UWA”, she said.
The Chevron City to Surf for Activ was
voted by employees as one of the top Choose your own
Charity events for 2011. Choose your own Charity is a Rio
Tinto Employees in the Community programme that supports the
valuable contribution employees make to their local communities.
Good luck to the Rio Tinto team on Sunday 28th
August.

The
team at the 2010 Sydney City2Surf
|
 One
team, which consists of families
who have had premature babies, will complete the 12km course
at this year’s Chevron City to Surf for Activ with a machine that
has changed each of their lives. The group will walk the course
pushing a humidicrib in a bid to raise awareness of the issues
surrounding premature birth.
The humidicrib is fitted with
handles for a minimum of four people to maneuver. This is by no
means easy with the crib weighing up to 90kg.
Completing the
12km course will be a fantastic achievement for mother Bronwyn Rose
after spending 113 days of 2010 on bed rest. “It’s about fulfilling
an achievement for everyone who walks it and it’s about thanking the
hospitals," Ms Rose said.
Keep an eye out for the team on Sunday
28th August. |
