Chevron City to Surf for Activ Ambassador, Rob de Castella's advice this week will help you reach the finish line faster.

"You can make up a lot of time in the race by practicing to run smoothly down hills so that your legs don't jar. With less than four weeks to go, try to fit in a couple of sessions this week", he said.

Rob de Castella represented Australia at four Olympic Games, won gold at two Commonwealth Games and was voted the World's Best Marathon Runner of the 1980s

2011 will see the return of the clothing service available to all participants on race day. This is a service that is provided to transport participant’s clothes from the start lines to the finish.  Each race pack includes a pull string bag, kindly donated by our Distribution Partner, IGA, as well as a numbered sticker that corresponds with your race bib.

Simply place your clothing sticker on your IGA bag and bring it along on race day. Once you’re ready to race you can remove any outer layers of clothing you do not wish to participate in and place them in your labeled bag. This bag is then be handed over to the designated Toll Clothing Service Truck at your start location.

Your clothes will be transported to the finish line ready for you to collect after you’ve taken the long way round!

Help us make the most of your old or unwanted clothes and Flick Your Kit on race day. Wear something old, used, pre-loved or unwanted over your running gear to keep warm and before you head to the start of your race donate these items to charity. This service will operate next to the clothing transport service in Perth City.

Look for the Flick Your Kit signs and remember these items will not be transported to the finish line - they will be donated to charity after the event.

Riverton couple and volunteering veterans, Les (67), and Maureen (65) Davies, are volunteering in the 2011 Chevron City to Surf for Activ, making it their 27th volunteer appearance for the iconic Perth Event.

Retired maintenance engineer Les Davies remembered when he was stationed on a part of the course that no longer exists and there were only about 3000 participants.

The Davies couple has encountered a variety of challenging, yet exciting, situations including once having to stop over 8000 participants for a sounding ambulance to pass. The couple has been so dedicated to the cause that they have withstood bucketing rain and additional challenging elements during their time as volunteer course marshals.

Since their first City to Surf for Activ Mr and Mrs. Davies have seen the event grow into Western Australia’s largest community sporting event as well as WA’s largest volunteering event with over 40,000 participants and 1,000 volunteers.
